Mercedes Martinez def. Dakota Kai by Disqualification

I had a tough time keeping track of who the babyface was in this match, and so did the crowd.

Wrestling fans are programmed to complain about DQ finishes, but I have no problem with this one because it planted yet another seed for the inevitable split between Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai.

Grizzled Young Vets Appear Live

Timothy Thatcher’s return couldn’t seem any more rushed.

Between The Grizzled Young Vets, Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher, all four of these guys feel like the same person.

Zayda Ramier def. Toni Storm

Zayda Ramier’s shooting star press gave me flashbacks of Brock Lesnar’s botched attempt, but she was able to stick the landing after it initially seemed like she may not make it.

Toni Storm’s feud with Zoey Stark will essentially crown NXT’s most talented loser.

From where I’m sitting, it would seem to me that Toni Storm is being punished for something. Somebody this talented doesn’t lose at this clip in NXT unless there’s something behind it, but maybe I’m just being paranoid.

Bronson Reed def. Austin Theory

Even though Bronson Reed is technically vying for the second-most important championship in NXT, this match was once again built around Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis

Dexter Lumis has been stalking and kidnapping Indi Hartwell for weeks now, and he’s being positioned as the sympathetic figure in this whole feud.

IMPERIUM def. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick

How is Finn Balor selling his injuries from the undefeated NXT champion Karrion Kross? With a trip to Mexico.

For the second night in a row, WWE is self-referencing its tendency to break up teams. Last night it was Randy Orton and Riddle, and tonight they did it with Killian Dain and Drake Maverick.

Fabian Aichner worked this match at a pace of at least 50 miles per hour.

Even with help from Alexander Wolfe, Dain and Maverick still found a way to lose this match.

The Way Attacks Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon

The finniest part of this segment was Robert Stone snatching the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships and celebrating with them.

There was no resolution to this segment after viewers were left with confusion as to whether or not the titles had changed hands. Instead, NXT just threw to an Adam Cole interview.

Adam Cole Sit-Down Interview with Arash Markazi

This interview was produced very well, almost too well as the questions—and even the answers sometimes—came off as scripted.

Has Arash Markazi ever heard of a follow-up question?

Legado Del Fantasma def. Kushida and MSK

This match wasn’t as high-flying as I had hoped, but it felt like an actual trios match, as if there was a Trios Championship division in NXT.

This was as good of an example of protecting the babyface while putting a heel over as you’ll see.
