Windsor Police Commander Aaron Lopez issued a news release Tuesday about someone soliciting vendors for the festival in the town’s Parks and Recreation Facebook page discussion last week.
The community’s several large events throughout the year can attract online fraud and scams, according to the release. One of the most popular events in town, The Windsor Harvest Festival brings in nearly 30,000 people and more than 150 vendors.
The post from the scammer on the Facebook page did not include the town’s logo, a verified icon, phone number or additional visible information that distinguishes the post coming from the town.
Lopez reminded social media users official town messages will always be issued by an official email, social media account, website, newsletter and number.
