 The drama in Stacey Abrams’ political thriller is unfolding off the page

Stacey Abrams’s life these past few years has been the stuff of high political drama. In 2018, she ran for governor of Georgia as the first Black woman on a major party ticket, only to face off against the sitting secretary of state who purged voter rolls ahead of the election. Abrams herself was nearly denied a ballot when she went to vote on Election Day.

After a contentious, narrow loss, she devoted herself to turning Georgia blue. Abrams emerging as a national figure while focusing intently on the state, writing two bestselling books while batting off rumors that she would run for Senate or even president. In the 2020 election, not only did Georgia turn blue, but Democrats won both Senate seats against steep odds in a runoff election.
