Melissa Dozier was going on her eighth year working with the Internal Revenue Service and had longed for a place she and her five-year-old son could call home. After making a pact with her sisters just before the pandemic, Melissa made it her mission to find a comfy and quiet home for them.
Determined by her young son’s wishes for a trampoline and playground, Melissa said she gave herself a deadline to find a home within a year. Mission accomplished.
Several months and 26 home offers later, Melissa and her son have officially settled on Laurel Street in Oakland, Tennessee. The East Memphis native still feels close to home, because she felt as if Oakland isn’t too far from where she grew up.
Melissa says initially, it was one of her sister’s ideas in 2019 for all three of them to find a home at the same time. She found her Oakland house, one of the sisters settled in Cordova, while the other is still searching.
