Lionsgate dropped a few new release dates yesterday. The big one was a June 29, 2022 (Wednesday) release date for Shotgun Wedding. That rom-com stars Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel (replacing Armie Hammer) as a couple dealing with their last-minute cold feet and their opinionated relatives as their destination wedding party gets taken hostage. If things remain as-is, that will give two Jennifer Lopez-starring romantic comedies for early-2022, with the Owen Wilson co-starring Marry Me opening February 11, 2022 following a one-year delay due to Covid. Despite my misgivings with Without Remorse, I would love to have seen the film theatrically instead of on a screener. There are screenings taking place tomorrow night, but none of the theaters are terribly close to me, so I opted to watch it at home and write up the review accordingly. Point being, I imagine there are folks who have missed the theatrical experience enough to find any reason to go to a movie theater, even if it’s not to see a movie. The Academy Awards telecast may not have delivered big ratings, but they did provide a nominal boost to the big winners. Fandango and Vudu are reporting a solid spike in Monday-to-Monday revenue. In terms of combined revenue from both VOD platforms, Best Picture winner Nomadland jumped 129% compared to the previous Monday, while Best International Film winner Another Round (which is about to get remade with Leonardo DiCaprio in the Mads Mikkelsen role) jumped 600%.
