May is about to be packed with new albums and EPs from some of the biggest names in the K-pop world, as they are all doling out new projects very close to one another. One of the most beloved acts in recent memory is finally returning after years away, a handful are back after only a few months of relative quiet, and BTS are slated to set the summer on fire with their next global smash.
Here are five of the most highly-anticipated K-pop boy band releases coming in May.
May 3 – HIGHLIGHT – The Blowing
It’s been several years since K-pop vocal band HIGHLIGHT dropped new music, as the members have been busy with their mandatory military enlistment, which is something that all South Korean stars must contend with. Now that the remaining vocalists have finished their duties, they’re back with a new EP titled The Blowing, which is coming up very, very soon. The short set will arrive on May 3.
May 10 – NCT DREAM – Hot Sauce
After years of doling out successful EP after successful EP, NCT Dream is finally gearing up to release their first-ever full-length, and it’s bound to be huge when it drops. The NCT spinoff group will share Hot Sauce on May 10, and it has been identified as one of the most highly-anticipated K-pop releases of the year, let alone of the month.
NCT Dream is the last sub-unit of NCT to release a full album, as the top group, as well as NCT 127 and WayV have already done the same.
May 11 – ONEUS – Binary Code
Earlier in 2021, ONEUS released their first full album Devil, which was a major success when it first arrived. Now, less than half a year later, the band’s new EP Binary Code is slated to arrive on May 11, just one day after NCT Dream’s Hot Sauce. Binary Code will be the South Korean boy band’s fifth EP.
May 21 – BTS – “Butter”
Just a single (as opposed to a full collection), BTS’s “Butter” is nonetheless one of the most highly anticipated releases of May in any country and of any style. The track, which has been described as dance-pop and English-language, is sure to be a huge hit all around the world, and the group may very well be headed toward another No. 1 in a number of territories.
No word yet on if “Butter” fronts an EP or a full album, but chances are it will be included on some project not long after it drops.
May 31 – TXT – The Chaos Chapter: Freeze
On the last day of the month, South Korean all-male vocal act TXT (or Tomorrow X Together for those who feel like using their full name) will release The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, their second proper album of 2021. The group’s third full-length is sure to take them to new heights in plenty of places, as they’ve been gaining ground with each new project they share.
