RALEIGH, N.C. – Students have returned to college and started classes for the fall. Being on their own can make them more susceptible to financial scams and identity theft tactics. Better Business Bureau of Eastern North Carolina (BBB) wants students and their parents to know what scams they should look out for, and how to better protect their information and money. 

These are some common financial threats college students face: 

  • Fake credit cards: Offers to apply for the first credit card are tempting to many students. Not only could this create credit problems down the road due to unchecked spending, but some of the deals could be phony offers designed to get access to personal information.
